Do you want your wedding to be personalized? Do you want it to stand out in people's memories when they look back on it? There's a quick and easy way to give it just a little peice of your personality, and it will be sure to leave a lasting impression on your guests because they will get to take it home with them afterwords. DIY wedding favors are inexpensive peice of your wedding that your loved ones will get to take home with them, and since you made them yourself, they will reflect on your personality as well as your loved one's. Here are a few simple steps to help you come up with a wedding favor they'll never forget.

The theme should relate to you and your fiance's relationship in some way, so lets take a look at some basic points. Where did the two of you meet? If there were sentimental or unique aspects to how you two came to be, this is a great place to start in coming up with the theme. The two of you have built your relationship on such memories, so why not include them in your big day?

Another good place to start is in tradition. Do you two have something you do together often? Do your families have any traditions you would like to include? Is there anything that you two have in common such as hobbies that you take part in together, or a recurring event that you attend? Any of these things can be included if you feel they represent what you and your better half believe in or enjoy doing. It is all a matter of what part of your wedding you want people to take home to remember.

The next step is deciding on the colors you will use in your favors. Many people use coming holidays as the inspiration behind the colors used in their wedding decorations. Other people are influenced by the seasons or surroundings for their choice of colors. If you and your better half have favorite colors that go well together, maybe you could use them. Any color-scheme is a good color-scheme if it makes your wedding more unique and special to you.

Another idea, would be where the two of you will be getting married. If near the ocean, you could use ocean-related colors, or if it's in the mountains you could use greens like the environment found there. Once you know the ideas and colors surrounding your themes you should pick how bold or quaint you want the favors to be. This could coincide with how big or small the wedding is supposed to be. All of these weigh on what kind of favors you will be making.

Now that you have gone through these few steps, the next step is to go shopping. For this step you can do whatever you feel suits you best. Some people have done the shell decorated picture frame with a snapshot of them and their special someone having fun together, others go bigger with a whole vase of silk flowers that go as a dazzling centerpiece for the tables at their reception. Either way you go you have to keep track of how many people you are going to be sending these home with, because you have to buy enough materials for everyone. You also have to remember the things you will need to assemble these decorations, ex. Hot glue, floral tape, wire, ribbons, etc. You don't want to have to make a second trip!

The final step is to assemble the favors. For this step all it takes is knowing what you want. With a little creativity you could have a unique set of favors that everyone will know represents you and your fiance. I have seen many different ideas put to use before that were easy to assemble. One couple I know love to read, so everybody got to take home a random old book with a bookmark that were embroidered with the initials of the bride and groom. This was good for their wedding because it was a small ceremony, so the quaintness of the favor fit well. On top of this, it wasn't expensive to buy a book for everybody there, because they hadn't invited many people. I have also seen a masquerade theme, and the favors were individualized bouquets of ballroom masks on sticks, arranged within vases and tied together with a lot of curled ribbon. Every family got a vase, and all the masks were bought plain by the bride and decorated by her and her fiance. This was good because the couple met in a dance class, and the masks each held a piece of their personalities. It also fit because it was a larger wedding, so the big displays that they made fit in well with all the other large decorations.

This has been just a short list of ideas on how to make your wedding day just that much more unique and interesting. Don't stress yourself out if it seems like too much, it's really only as hard as you make it. Remember, no matter what you decide to make, your guests will be happy knowing that you put that extra amount of thought into the favors that they get to take home with them to remember your big day.
